Murtaugh may be too old for this s--t, but Fox certainly isn't.
The network has handed out its first full season pick-up of 2016, ordering five additional episodes of Lethal Weapon. The reboot of the beloved film franchise will wrap up its first season after 18 episodes, which comes in just shy of the traditional 22-episode season that has been steadily falling out of fashion with the broadcast networks.
The pick-up is something of a no-brainer, as the revamp of the epic (and epically mis-matched) partnership between LAPD detectives Murtaugh (Damon Wayons) and Riggs (Clayne Crawford) delivered Fox's highest fall premiere in two years.
"Lethal Weapon delivers an explosive and wildly entertaining core relationship between two cops, with dynamic performances by Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, surrounded by cinematic action, endearing humor and true heart," David Madden, president of entertainment at Fox Broadcasting Company, said in a statement. "Matt Miller, McG, Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz have done a tremendous job on this show, which has proven to be a self-starter and solid companion for Empire. We are thrilled to add these episodes to Lethal Weapon's first season."
The pick-up makes Fox the third network to order more episodes of their fall 2016 offerings. NBC led the way with its quick pick-up of hit series This Is Us, with ABC not far behind with full-season orders of Designated Survivor and Speechless.
Lethal Weapon also stars Keesha Sharp, Kevin Rahm, Jordana Brewster, Johnathan Fernandez, Dante Brown, and Chandler Kinney.
