How Do Stars Keep Up With Their Joneses?
I've read in a few columns that drug addiction is prevalent in Hollywood and that many stars are addicted. So if it's true, how are they so good at hiding their addictions physically?

You forget that stars rarely live in a vacuum. (VAC-yoom: Nothingness, emptiness. See episodes 1 through whatever of the new J.J. Abrams series, Fringe.) Celebrities always have people around them, people to shield, deflect, bully—in short, hide any addiction from the greater public.
Don't take it from me. Take it from the supermodel-slash-recovering-addict I interviewed about this very subject...
Ex Guns N' Roses Drummer Cops Plea
All it takes is patience…and a smart lawyer for Steven Adler.
The original drummer for Guns N' Roses will likely avoid jail time after pleading no contest on Friday to felony drug possession charges stemming from a July arrest.
A Los Angeles judge ordered Adler, 43, to return to court Dec. 12, where it's expected he will be sentenced to rehab.
Adler was arrested in July in Hollywood after someone complained that he was causing a disturbance. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of being under the influence, but the DA's office says that charge will likely be dismissed if Adler is admitted to the treatment program.

Barenaked Ladies Man Agrees to Rehab, Avoids Jail
Steven Page has been presented with a get-out-of-jail treatment card.
The Barenaked Ladies front man cut a deal in an upstate New York courtroom Tuesday that will allow him to avoid jail time for drug possession if he seeks treatment and manages to stay clean for six months.
If those conditions are met, all charges will be dropped, said Judge Thomas Morgan in Fayetteville Village Court.
"I'm grateful...for this opportunity to further prove myself as a productive and law-abiding member of society," Page, who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession, said in a prepared statement. "I look forward to the next six months as a period of healing and growth."
Colin Farrell on Rehab: "I Was Dying"
Colin Farrell is opening up about his rehabbing past for the first time, candidly speaking about the demons that drove him to get help on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, the BBC's answer to David Letterman.
The Irish actor revealed that he checked himself into a five- or six-week program in 2005 after completing filming on Miami Vice, saying, "I was just done." (His sober musings kick in at the 3:25 mark.)
"I was pretty sick," he said, calling the experience of sobering up "a nightmare."
"I began to come out of the haze that I was in and had burrowed myself into so deeply...Basically, I'd been fairly drunk or high since I was 14. I was very drunk and high for 16 years, so it was a tough life change, and I was dying. I'm one of the lucky ones."

David Duchovny Out of Rehab
Here's hoping David Duchovny has found the proper help for what ails him.
The Californication star has checked out of the facility where he was undergoing treatment for a sex addiction, according to the actor's lawyer, Stanton "Larry" Stein.
"David is out of rehab and about to start a new movie," Stein said in a statement Monday. "He successfully completed his treatment."
Duchovny revealed Aug. 28 that he was voluntarily seeking help.
"I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family," he said at the time.
His wife of more than 11 years, Téa Leoni, opted out of a scheduled appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival less than a week later.
Lindsay Lohan Looks Grumpy, Feels Happy
Someone forced Lindsay Lohan to take an afternoon away from shopping with Samantha Ronson to shoot a Marie Claire cover, and she doesn’t look too happy about it. But you know what does make her happy?
SamRo! “She’s a great person,” Lilo says in the profile. “And she’s a great influence on people around her. But I think that anything that’s changed in my life is because of me. I’ve gone through it and I’ve had to deal with it and I’ve made the decision to move forward. So yeah, she’s a great person.”
Téa Leoni Opts Out of Toronto Fest
Téa Leoni doesn't much feel like being in the spotlight this week.
According to her rep, the leading lady has pulled out of her scheduled appearances at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was going to be promoting her upcoming comedy Ghost Town.
Although no explanation was given, the dots are easily connected: David Duchovny, Leoni's husband of 11 years, revealed last week that he had checked into rehab to treat a sex addiction.
"I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family," Duchovny said in a statement Thursday. He and Leoni have two young children.
The Toronto fest kicks off Sept. 4, lasting until Sept. 13, and Ghost Town is slated to premiere Friday. The skeptic-sees-spooks comedy, costarring Ricky Gervais, hits theaters Sept. 19.
Say What?!
"It's news to me. He didn't seem any more or less horny than anyone I worked with."

David Duchovny Rehabbing for Sex Addiction
The truth is out there, whether we want it or not.
David Duchovny has checked into rehab to undergo treatment for sex addiction, E! News has confirmed.
"I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction," Duchovny said in a statement released Thursday by his attorney, Stanton "Larry" Stein. "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."
The 48-year-old X-Files star—who, ironically, won a Golden Globe this year for playing an over-sexed struggling writer on Showtime's Californication—has been married to Téa Leoni since May 1997. They have two children together, daughter Madelaine West, 9, and son Kyd Miller, 6.
"All of us at Showtime wish David and his family the best during this very private time," Richard Licata, the network's executive VP of Corporate Communications, said in a statement to E! News.
Ex-Guns N' Roses Drummer Arraigned
It's not so easy being Steven Adler.
The former Guns N' Roses drummer pleaded not guilty to drug charges today in Los Angeles Superior Court stemming from a bust last month at his Hollywood home.
Adler, 43, was ordered to remain in a drug-treatment facility for at least another month (much to the relief of Dr. Drew, no doubt), until a Sept. 17 preliminary hearing. The musician faces one felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, an opiate, and a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of drugs.

Lane Garrison's Recovery Stunted by the System
So much for the proud notion of rehabilitation.
As E! News exclusively reported, last week was supposed to be Lane Garrison's introduction to the substance-abuse program at the state prison in Tehachapi, Calif., where the former Prison Break actor is serving a 40-month sentence for vehicular manslaughter involving alcohol.
Unfortunately, it was also his last.
Garrison's long-awaited transfer into the substance-abuse program is over before it really began, E! News has learned. It turns out that the program within the California Department of Corrections was one of many services that were cut when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed and issued an executive order to ensure that the state has enough money to operate in the near future without a budget.
"They came back from lunch, and there was just a sign on the door. And that was just that," said a source close to another inmate who was previously in the program.
