Battle of the Birthday Boys: Mickey vs. Owen
At first glance, today's dueling birthday boys Mickey Mouse and Owen Wilson, 80 and 40 years young respectively, may not seem to have too much in common.
Then again, each does boast a distinguishing physical characteristic—one a tail, the other a nose. Both seem to have a well-documented aversion to wearing shirts. And each does seem to favor collaborating with the same creative teams over and over again—one running with a posse of Minnie, Goofy and Donald, the other with a crew of Luke, Wes and Ben.
Still, there are plenty of differences.
Exclusive Pics: Jennifer Aniston's Dog Days of Winter
Curmudgeonly cinema legend W.C. Fields always advised: Never work with children or animals. But it seems to be turning out fine for Jennifer Aniston, at least based on these exclusive picks from Marley & Me, where Jen shares the screen with manchild Owen Wilson and attention-hogging pooch Marley.
The flick's not due until Christmas (learn more in our 2008 Holiday Movie Guide gallery, previewed below). But to tide you over, we've got three more exclusive pics on the jump, more than one of which includes extremely cute puppies. So be forwarned before you click to the next page, side effects may include oohing and aahing and that's-so-cute cooing.
Kate and Owen's Bad Break
We hear things didn't end well between Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson.
"Yeah, it was pretty hostile," says a source close to Owen. "Lots of shouting. Lots of tears."
Sources close to the couple confirm to E! News that the duo are no longer on speaking terms, following a blowout over allegations that Owen was flirting with other women while on location for the film Marley & Me in Miami.
"Look, they haven't been getting along really for most of the time they've been back together," said the friend of Owen, referring to when the couple reunited in February. "Owen can be a moody guy, very up and very down. And Kate is so upbeat, it was hard for her to take."
After all the bitter bickering, the couple basically stopped speaking for awhile.

Jennifer Aniston's New Diamond?
Jennifer Aniston got a new diamond and...it's the kind you play baseball on.
She and Owen Wilson spent part of the weekend at a Florida Marlins baseball game chasing their canine costar from Marley & Me up and down the bleachers.
So if you're in the stands trying to watch a ballgame and some Hollywood stars and their dog keep running up and down the stairs, does that make you more or less likely to go see their movie? Just asking.
Jen & John's Friendly Miami Wonderland
Forget those inevitable co-star coupling rumors of Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston currently filming Marley & Me in Miami. People online has some fresh romantic kindling to fire up whispers of a Jen and John Mayer get together in scenic south Florida.
The darling duo reportedly had a cozy private lunch at Michael's Genuine Food & Drink, which opened early for the stars. They lunched for 90 minutes on salad and sandwich respectively, trading bites and sharing desert.
Jen and John shared even more later when they had a cozy dinner at Casa Tua in South Beach, leaving together around 1 a.m. and were reportedly seen holding hands when they returned to their hotel. (Aniston's reps have so far declined comment.)
Sharing an intimate lunch and dinner is intriguing, but when it comes to intimacy, we really want to know about breakfast!

Owen Wilson: Back in Business
Owen Wilson is heading back to the big screen.
The laid-back funnyman is set to begin production on Marley & Me next month, his first professional project since his hospitalization last August.
The 39-year-old star will appear alongside Jennifer Aniston in the canine comedy, based on the bestselling memoir by John Grogan. The actors were initially slated to begin shooting the film last fall, but production was pushed back until at least the spring in order to allow Wilson time to recover from his purported suicide attempt.
The incident also resulted in Wilson pulling out of a cameo role in pal Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder. Matthew McConaughey stepped in to replace Wilson in that flick.
Marley & Me will now begin production Mar. 10. The shoot, which will take place in Miami, is expected to last through mid-May.
The film, like the book, revolves around John and Jenny Grogan, a couple who adopt a neurotic, naughty dog named Marley. Among other misdeeds, the pesky pooch steals women's undergarments, decimates jewelry and furniture and gets expelled from obedience school. He also, as it happens, teaches the duo about the true meaning of unconditional love.
"I'm thrilled they're starting production on this," Grogan told People. "It's been a long time coming and I really couldn't be happier...I read the script and I like it. I think it's really true to the book."
The author is equally as taken with the idea of being portrayed by the Hollywood heavyweight.
"I'm actually thrilled to have Owen Wilson portray me. We don't look anything alike, but I think his personality will be a great fit to my own. And my wife, Jenny, is thrilled with being played by Jennifer Aniston, and so am I. What's not to like, right?"
Movie audiences will likely decide that for themselves when the film, also starring Alan Arkin, hits theaters this Christmas.
Owen Wilson Talks Shop, Nothing Else
If nothing else, MySpace's "exclusive" Owen Wilson-Wes Anderson interview shed a little light on what it might be like to be a fly on the wall in the quirky duo's writing room.
The longtime pals and frequent collaborators' five-minute chat, posted Friday on the social networking site as part of its ongoing Artist on Artist feature, turned out to be nothing more than a tongue-in-cheek promo for their latest film, The Darjeeling Limited, which opened in wide release today.
Meaning, it was not the Diane Sawyer-style, revelatory, emotional interview that was suggested when outlets such as USA Today and People and Us Weekly's Websites reported that Wilson was finally opening up (meaning, on camera) for the first time since his suicide attempt in August.
Of course, no one affirmatively stated that Wilson was going to talk about the incident, or even his feelings in general, and it's unclear how the MySpace braintrust spun the big get.
But he and Anderson weren't even in the same room! Wilson was in Culver City, Calif., and the filmmaker was in New York. Anderson even marveled at one point over the technology—"the same they used in Transformers," he mused—that brought them together.
The two more or less interviewed each other, with Wilson kicking things off by asking Anderson why he chose India for The Darjeeling Limited, in which Wilson, Jason Schwartzman (who cowrote the screenplay) and Adrien Brody play brothers riding a train cross-country to visit their estranged mother, played by Anderson regular Anjelica Huston, who became a nun after their father's death.
"I wanted to learn about it, that was really my main thing," Anderson said. "But when I went, then I felt like I wanted to share it with our group of collaborators."
Wilson has appeared in all of Anderson's films, including an uncredited cameo in Rushmore, which he cowrote.
The 38-year-old actor, whose deadpan, assured-yet-wide-eyed delivery that he's had going for him in everything from Zoolander to Wedding Crashers seems to mirror his actual persona, also cowrote Bottle Rocket and The Royal Tennenbaums with Anderson, who has had a hand in all of the scripts he's directed.
The usual suspects in an Anderson production include, give or take a film, Owen and Luke Wilson, Schwartzman, Huston, Bill Murray and Indian actor Kumar Pallana, who has been in all of Anderson's films except The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
On a more personal note, Wilson said that The Darjeeling Limited may be his favorite of all of their films, and of course Anderson asks why that is.
"Because…I just like the themes it's exploring," Wilson explained, "in the way my character says, 'I want us to become brothers again, like we used to be.' I really like that line and it means a lot to me. There's a lot of stuff like that in this movie that has that feeling. There's stuff that feels exhilarating."
"This to me feels like the most personal one for all of us, like the most overtly personal," Anderson agreed.
Wilson's character, Francis Whitman, spends the whole of The Darjeeling Limited with his head wrapped in bandages as the result of a car crash that might not have entirely been an accident. Just as photo stills featuring a banged-up Wilson started making the rounds in August, he was hospitalized after what authorities said was a suicide attempt.
"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson said at the time in a statement released by his publicist. Buddies such as Anderson and Ben Stiller gave the media some positive updates on his condition a few weeks later.
As far as his appearance Friday, the bearded blonde looked as healthy, relaxed and charmingly disheveled as ever, but the comments about the personal nature of the film were as deep as anyone delved.
"Where are you going next?" Wilson inquired of his friend. "You've been to Texas, to Texas, to New York, to Rome, to India."
"I was kinda thinking it might be nice to do something in space," Anderson said.
To which Wilson replied, "Why not?"
No major revelations, but vintage Owen Wilson.
Owen Wilson Makes Surprise Cameo
Owen Wilson is back, in limited release.
Nearly six weeks after his reported suicide attempt, the actor made his first public appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of his new film, The Darjeeling Limited, Thursday night.
The 38-year-old actor opted out of the red carpet rounds at the event, thereby avoiding any probing questions about his state of recovery. Instead, he snuck into the private screening at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater and surprised the assembled masses.
Director, frequent collaborator and former college roommate Wes Anderson led the warm reception, calling the actor "my best friend," as Wilson took the stage with costars Jason Schwartzman, Anjelica Huston, Adrien Brody and Natalie Portman.
"I've never made a movie without him," Anderson said. "And I hope I never have to."
The prolific duo has previously worked together on Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic and Rushmore.
Wilson, who donned a classic dark suit and white button-down shirt for the event, did not make any comments or field any questions about either the movie or his personal life. He also did not stay for the duration of the screening, spending a few moments in the front row but bowing out of the theater before the film began.
The actor has laid low since his hospitalization in late August, canceling promotional appearances for the film, including its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival last month.
But while the actor cleverly avoided the prying press, his costars weren't as lucky, fielding questions, as ever, about Wilson's recovery.
Schwartzman, who in addition to costarring in the film, cowrote the project with Anderson, told People Wilson is "doing very well...and I love him."
The Darjeeling Limited, centering on three brothers' spiritual journey across India, opened in limited release on Sept. 29.
McConaughey Storms Thunder for Wilson
Matthew McConaughey is taking on the highest-profile uncredited cameo of his life.
The shaggy-haired shirt-averse actor is stepping into the Tropic Thunder bit part that was vacated by Owen Wilson last month.
McConaughey will join the Ben Stiller-directed comedy and its funnyman-powerhouse ensemble cast for just a few days of filming in Hawaii. In addition to director-star Stiller, the Texas heartthrob joins Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Bill Hader, Steve Coogan and Nick Nolte in the flick.
While there's no word on the nature of the cameo, Tropic Thunder centers on a group of actors who congregate on a remote island to begin shooting a big-budget war movie, only to be forced into becoming the soldiers they're meant to play.
Wilson was originally intended to fill the role but pulled out last month in the wake of his hospitalization for a reported suicide attempt. Another of the movie's actors, British comedian Coogan, briefly shared headlines with Wilson, when Courtney Love accused him of encouraging Wilson's drug use.
McConaughey will touch down in Hawaii for less than a week to film his scenes sometime this month.
In the meantime, he earned himself another costar Wednesday, this time in the form of Jennifer Garner, who has signed on to star opposite the onetime Sexiest Man Alive in the romantic comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
That flick centers on a charm-oozing womanizer who, while attending his younger brother's wedding, finds himself haunted by, aptly enough, ghosts of girlfriends past, present and future who try to convince him he's in love with his childhood sweetie.
Shooting on that film is set to begin in January.
Tropic Thunder, meanwhile, is scheduled for release on July 11, 2008.
Owen Wilson Returns Home
Just one week after being admitted to the hospital following an apparent suicide attempt, Owen Wilson is back home and "doing very well," according to friends.
While the actor has canceled all immediate public appearances, including what was expected to be a high-profile screening of The Darjeeling Limited at the Venice Film Festival this week, his director on the project, Wes Anderson, did show up to the festival and spoke publicly about his collaborator and longtime friend—the two were college roommates—for the first time since Wilson's hospitalization.
"We all miss having him here very much. Obviously, he has been through a lot this week," Anderson told reporters on the Lido Monday. "I can tell you he has been doing very well—he has been making us laugh.
"When he's ready, he's going to speak for himself much better than any of us could. He has a very good way with words."
In the film, about three brothers' train journey across India to strengthen their fraternal bond, Wilson stars alongside Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman, with Anderson repertory players Anjelica Huston and Bill Murray also appearing. Eerily enough, the 38-year-old is bandaged for the duration of the film, as it's implied prior to the start of their trip that his character attempted suicide.
Brody also spoke out about his costar at the film's news conference, saying that working with Wilson was "a brotherly thing."
"Owen has a tremendous sense of humor, and he's very mischievous," Brody said.
While Wilson didn't make it to Venice this week, he did make it home, getting released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after a one-week stay.
The actor has already been spotted back at his Santa Monica home, with the paparazzi snapping photos of him and his Australian cattle dog Garcia getting a chauffeured, police-escorted lift to his brother Luke's house Monday night for a dinner with family.
The comedy star is poised to take a break from returning to the daily grind, having disassociated himself from Tropic Thunder, a big-screen comedy currently filming in Hawaii, directed by longtime buddy Ben Stiller.
Owen Wilson Pulls Out of Thunder
After requesting the opportunity to "heal in private," Owen Wilson is taking time off to do just that.
Following his hospitalization after a reported suicide attempt Sunday, the actor has dropped out of the Ben Stiller-directed film Tropic Thunder, according to the trades.
Neither DreamWorks nor Wilson's camp have commented on the development.
The ensemble comedy, which stars Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr. and Nick Nolte, began production six weeks ago. Wilson had been scheduled to depart for Hawaii to shoot his role in the coming weeks.
According to Variety, Wilson and longtime friend Stiller reached a mutual decision that he should sit this one out. It's unclear whether his role will be recast or written out of the script altogether.
"Ben and Owen have made eight movies together," a source close to the project told Variety. "And he can't wait to work with Owen again. It's just not going to be on this film."
The film centers on a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie, who, through a series of freak events, are forced to become the soldiers they set out to portray. Wilson's decision was not expected to affect production.
Wilson remains in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. A spokeswoman for the facility said he was "in good condition."
Police logs confirm that officers responded to the actor's Santa Monica home around 12:08 p.m., after receiving a call about an "attempted suicide."
Owen Wilson Hospitalized
It was no laughing matter for Owen Wilson over the weekend.
The big-screen funnyman was hospitalized just after noon on Sunday after Santa Monica police officers responded to a medical aid call at the actor's home. Wilson's camp has yet to offer a reason for his hospitalization, though it's been revealed to have been the result of a suicide attempt.
According to the Calls for Service log from the Santa Monica Police Department, posted online, the incident type listed for the 911 response call placed from the actor's house was "attempted suicide." The call was logged at 12:08 p.m. Sunday afternoon and was "cleared" at 5:07 p.m.
"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson said in a statement released through his publicist, Ina Treciokas.
Cynthia Harding, a spokeswoman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, confirmed that Wilson had been transferred to the facility late Sunday night after first checking into St. John's Health Center and that he is currently "in good condition." [Get more details on Wilson's recent whereabouts in the Hum.]
While the actor's reps have yet to comment on the nature of the hospitalization, the 38-year-old blond thesp's brothers, Luke and Andrew Wilson, along with his parents, were all spotted at Cedars-Sinai Sunday night.
The Santa Monica Police Department issued a statement over the weekend stating simply that Santa Monica Fire Department paramedics answered a "medical aid call" at 12:10 p.m. Sunday at a Santa Monica home and that "a person was transported to a local hospital where they are being treated."
The actual 911 call of the incident has not been released.
While the address of the home was also not confirmed, People reported that the home paramedics responded to is indeed owned by Wilson.
Star and the National Enquirer, meanwhile, have gone even further. While Wilson's reps have so far opted not to comment on the media speculation—failing to confirm whether the actor was even home at the time of the call, let alone been hospitalized—the tabloids are claiming that Wilson was admitted to St. John's hospital Sunday afternoon after attempting suicide.
The publications also jointly report that Wilson was transferred from St. John's to another hospital later in the day.
Wilson's reps have not commented on any aspect of the tabloids' report.
Wilson is next due to hit the big screen in The Darjeeling Limited, directed by frequent collaborator Wes Anderson. The flick is due to premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month, where it will screen in competition.
The recovering thesp was also due to begin production on Tropic Thunder, for director, frequent costar and pal Ben Stiller, in the next few weeks. Shooting on the comedy, also starring Jack Black and Bill Hader, is already underway in Hawaii. Per Variety, it's unclear if Wilson will stay on board the project or whether his part will be recast.
For its part, DreamWorks, the movie's producer, issued a one-sentence statement Monday, saying, "Filming on Tropic Thunder continues."
Earlier this summer, Wilson signed on to star alongside Jennifer Aniston in the 20th Century Fox comedy Marley & Me. Shooting on that flick is scheduled to kick off in January, though questions have already arisen as to the insurability of the hospitalized actor. Fox, however, told Variety that it's not a question they have considered.
"It's a totally inappropriate question at this time when all of our thoughts and concerns are with his health and well being."
