The Future of HSM: Sequels, Footloose and...College?
High School Musical 3 isn't out for a few weeks, but the cast has already said their goodbyes and, at a press conference Sunday, spilled about plans for the future.
Resident dreamboat Zac Efron has two movies completed and awaiting releases—17 Again and Me and Orson Welles—but there is one particular project we're most concerned about interested in. That would be the remake of Footloose, starring Zac and directed by HSM's Kenny Ortega.
The Zefron gave us an official update at a press conference. "Footloose is coming together, actually," he told us. "We're trying to figure out the right way to do it, but yeah. It seems like it's going to happen." Whether that's good news or bad news depends on when you were born.
And how 'bout all that High School Musical 4 talk?
High School Musical Cast: It's Sad to Be Grads
Over three years, three movies and 33 songs now, we've kinda gotten attached to Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and the rest of the merry gang of singing high schoolers. And they've kinda gotten attached to being the HSM kids.
To hear them talk about the "very emotional" last day of shooting High School Musical, it actually sounds a lot like leaving real-life high school and trying to figure out what's suppose to come next. Except these kids have a couple million dollars and perfect hair.
At a press conference Sunday, director Kenny Ortega described that fateful last day as kind of a mess: "The entire cast, one at a time, started to crumble. We had to stop shooting...and send them back to the makeup trailer." So who started it?
Does Zac Have Naked Ambition?
A lot of kids go a little crazy after graduation, so maybe that's what's happening to High School Musical 3 hunk Zac Efron, who is reportedly considering following in Harry Potter's nekkid footprints on Broadway in Equus.
Zac Efron Is So Dreamy, It's Dangerous
Oh, Zefron. So pretty on this EW cover. And inside he describes avoiding paparazzi by “always bobbing and weaving through alleyways trying to get to meetings, scouting out and looking outside doors and running around like Jason Bourne.” How is that not the cutest thing ever?
It’s no wonder that some crazed fan allegedly attacked him in London yesterday by grabbing his hair. While we can’t explain exactly why this crazed fan was a middle-aged man (Creepy McCreeperson!), we can identify with the overpowering desire to touch those perfectly shiny locks. Wow, that probably makes us a Creepy McCreeperson, too. But if that’s the consequence for declaring our Zefron love, so be it.
Anyway, enough gushing—it’s embarrassing. There's probably some Girls Next Door news we need to get to or something.
HSM3: Taking Over Planet, One Premiere at a Time
Zac, Vanessa, Corbin and Ashley (we know you don't need their last names, otherwise you probably wouldn't even be reading this) continued their glamorous reign over screaming tweens Tuesday, as the quartet converged on Leicester Square in London, England, for yet another premiere of High School Musical 3: Senior Year.
Check out the other countries the Wildcats have conquered so far in their ongoing quest for global and, of course, eventual box-office domination in our HSM3 World Tour gallery. The promotion wraps up Oct. 16 in Los Angeles.
Burning Q's: Aniston's Smokin' & Zefron's Baby
I wanna know if Jennifer Aniston smokes. I've read she does, but I haven't seen one single picture of her smoking. Thanks for your answer, B!tch!
— Vanesa, Argentina
E!'s own Matt Donnelly, better known as my B!tchling, says he saw her smoking within the past month—in Miami, to be specific. So there. Make your peace with this scorching fact and enjoy still more of my answers to your Burning Qs!
Hey! I heard Vanessa Hudgens is pregnant with Zac Efron's baby! Is that true?

HSM3 Cast Told: Bring Your Big-Screen Game
Okay kids, no more slacking off. The first two High School Musicals were totally made-for-TV, but High School Musical 3: Senior Year is a real movie, in real theaters, on big screens and everything. That means stars Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale had to step up their game, according to the film's director Kenny Ortega.
"They'll say that I pushed them harder in what we laid out for them," Ortega told E! News this week. "They really raised the bar on themselves. I think it's the finest acting, definitely the best production and a great finale to the trilogy."
Ortega also spilled that he's tweaking the final print—but you'll have to chase him around the world to see the first screening.
"I'm just a few weeks away from being finished," he said, "I'm going to have the movie under my arm on [Sept.] 27th, traveling to Europe to show it for the first time."
You coming? Otherwise, Senior Year opens for the rest of us Oct. 24.
LaBeouf, Efron: Legends of the Fall?
If all goes well for Hollywood, Shia LaBeouf and Zac Efron will be the new Reese Witherspoon.
The fall movie season begins today. Running through Halloween weekend, the next two months will boast plenty of stars, a good number of Oscar contenders, including Oliver Stone's W., but possibly few, if any, box-office blockbusters.
It's been six years, in fact, since any film released in September grossed more than $100 million, Exhibitor Relations reported this week. The last movie to do so was the Witherspoon comedy Sweet Home Alabama.
"If any film [this] September has a chance to break $100 million," says Exhibitor Relations' Jeff Bock, "it's Eagle Eye and Shia LaBeouf."
Dreamy Teen Alert: Another Zac Attack
Look out, he'll kill you with cuteness! Zac Efron is back (and yeah, we know he hasn't really gone anywhere). The superstudmuffin and über-genial High School Musical star gets his twinkly-smiley thing cranking while remaining charmingly humble in this backstage vid for his Teen Vogue cover shoot.
Even in featherweight fluff like this, Zac is the mack. Sigh.
Zac-Tastic High School Musical 3 Scrapbook
Hey kids, and kid wannabes, the senior year scrapbook is here! This teaser vid with Zac, Vanessa, Ashley, Corbin and everybody else features backstage goofs, silly prom outfits, a 15-hour dance rehearsal, pep rallies and free T-shirts.
And did we mention that Zac is sooooooo cute?
Update
Vanessa Hudgens Courted for Her Money
Vanessa Hudgens is having a lot of trouble losing her old entourage.
For the second time in the past 12 months, the High School Musical star has been sued by a former business associate who says she has been flaky with her royalty payments since giving him the boot. (View the lawsuit.)
Per documents filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Hudgens entered into a court-approved "production agreement" with Johnny Viera's Johnny on the Spot Productions that required her to share advances, royalties and merchandising revenue (everything, really) in exchange for his career-launching services.
Viera charges that, after Hudgens landed her HSM gig, she dumped her old talent team, including Viera, even after she had presented him with a photograph of her signed, "Johnny, thank you for everything, without you, I would be nowhere. We will make it BIG…Vanessa Hudgens." And at the bottom of the picture, she wrote, "*Sweet!*"
Is nothing sacred these days?
HSM3 Posters in All Their Cheesetastic Glory
What you are viewing to the left is not some overzealous fan art. No, in fact it is the official High School Musical 3 poster released by Disney.
This should be a relief to fans worried taking the show to the big screen would result in a glossier, more unrelatable version of East High, the school that never stops singing and dancing. Judging from both the poster and trailer, the cheese from the two previous made-for-TV movies is completely intact.
And the best part is, Disney can just stick this work of art on a back-to-school spiral notebook without having to make any adjustments.
