Watch: Will There Be a "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" Crossover?

Just imagine a world in which Hollywood releases a Star Wars-Star Trek crossover movie.

Depending on how you look at it, the film could be the ultimate fantasy flick or a complete nightmare for the two franchises' most rabid fans.

Well, if it's up to director-producer J.J. Abrams, Princess Leia will never cross paths on the big screen with Captain Kirk.

"You might have read that Star Wars is a long time ago and far, far away," Abrams cracked at the Comic-Con premiere of Star Trek Beyond (in theaters today). "I'm not sure if you're up on that and [Star Trek] is our future."

But can't anything happen in science fiction? "I'm sure there is some wonderful fan fiction out there," Abrams said.

Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin laughed when I asked about the possible crossover. "My son would love to see that," he said. "The whole time we'd been shooting he kept asking me if we could put [in] stormtroopers. I kept trying to tell him the timeline didn't match but he didn't care."'

John Cho, who plays Sulu in Star Trek, joked, "I'd rather make it a Star Trek and Harold & Kumar mashup."

What else did we learn at the premiere?

Chris Pine is very excited that Chris Hemsworth will be returning as Capt. Kirk's father in the next Star Trek film. However, Pine said he has no plans to refer to the Aussie actor as "daddy."

"Not going to happen," Pine said.

Cho said he was happy that Sulu's husband is played by screenwriter Doug Jung, who appears as his hubby in the movie in a photo of him with Sulu and their son. Cho laughed, "Sulu likes pretty boys."

And Idris Elba said he'd like to do an E! News takeover because his first name may be spelled with an "I" but it's pronounced, "E-dris." "All Idris. Idris everything," the actor said.

And then he took us up on my offer that he practice his hosting skills right there on the Star Trek red carpet.

The guy really can do anything!
