Courteney Cox may have made us laugh a lot in Friends and Cougar Town, but the actress takes a more serious turn in the new indie drama Mothers And Daughters.

And only E! News has this exclusive sneak peek at a scene that shows Cox having an emotional exchange with Christina Ricci, a young lawyer who has just found out who her real mother is.

Hit play in the video above to see Cox's teary-eyed performance.

Mothers And Daughters is an ensemble piece about a photographer (Selma Blair) who encounters a series of intertwining stories about motherhood.

Directed by Paul Duddridge, the film co-stars Sharon Stone, Mira Sorvino, Paul Wesley, Ashanti, Quinton Aaron and Gilles Marini as well as Susan Sarandon and her real-life daughter Eva Amurri Martino.

In the trailer for the movie, Stone is seen being blown off by her daughter while Sorvino admits she gave up a daughter for adoption, something she regrets "every day."

Blair's character learns she's pregnant.

"What?" a shocked Blair asks her doctor (Aaron). "How long do I have?"

The doc laughs, "It's not a death sentence."

Blair is then heard in a voice over. "Mothers come in all shapes and sizes, sometimes there for just a moment and sometimes, they remain for a lifetime," she says. "Today is Mother's Day and I remember everything about you."

Mothers And Daughters is in theaters on Friday, May 6.
