Sure, in an ideal world you'd have time for a fresh blowout between the gym and dinner with friends, but let's be honest, that's not the world that we live in. To make the best use of your time, we asked celeb hairstylist Suzie Kim to recreate trendy athleisure braids (seen on celebs like Khloe Kardashian and Cara Delevingne) that are just as functional as they are stylish.
"Athleisure is a huge trend with celebs right now and these gym-inspired hairstyles are perfect because they hold up during a workout and can be easily taken from the gym to the streets," said Suzie.
For a boho vibe, a high pony, like Cara's, is easily spruced up with a braided section along the top. "For any type of high ponytail, I like to spray hair first with a dry shampoo, like Joico Instant Refresh, to give it that gritty texture that really holds the style in place during and after a workout," advised Suzie. To ensure that you don't have to touch your hair (even after your workout), just spritz the up do with a strong-hold hairspray, like Bed Head Masterpiece Shine Hairspray.
For a sleeker Kardashian-inspired style, boxer braids are the way to go. "This slick-tight updo works great if you're extra-active because it hides the grease on dirty hair," mentioned the pro. To make the style extra sleek, rub a pomade, like Joico Flex Control Pliable Paste, from roots to end and brush out to evenly distribute product and keep hair slick. Also, noted Suzie, "be sure to use a rat tail comb to get a that clean and precise part." To add shine and tame flyaways, mist hair with a dry oil spray, like PSSSST! Sheer Dry Oil Finish Spray.
